Home fashion is as diverse today as high style is in couture. And like couture, it is fashioned for the individual client. Whether custom pieces are utilized in the design of a house or "off the rack" furnishings and products are called into play, it is how they are positioned that allows a home to take on the personality of its owner.

In this issue, we feature homeowners with diverse tastes who have articulated their point of view into a loving environment. East Hampton homeowner Wayne Schwartz transformed a 1926 bungalow with the assistance of designer Steven Walsh. Now, when you walk into this 1,800-square-foot, midcentury modern house, there is no question as to who the owner is. Walsh understood the meticulous attention to detail required to perform this metamorphosis both with the materials utilized and the personal possessions that Schwartz wanted to live with.

When collecting over a lifetime, it can often be difficult to coexist with all of those acquired possessions. But the husband and wife team of Palma Kolansky and Joe Troiano have blended their passions into a seamless sanctuary. Their Bridgehampton home has more energy in it than most. The creativity that both bring to the table, so to speak, is endless. She is a noted fashion and beauty photographer; he, a famed children's book author, lyricist and beloved chef to all who have eaten at their table.
