THE 2006 HC&G IDEA HOUSE
STEVEN W. SEMES is a licensed architect with over 25 years of experience in all aspects of professional practice and a leader in the field of new traditional architecture. He earned his degrees at the University of Virginia and Columbia University. In 1999, Semes established his firm in New York City and East Hampton, specializing in custom residential projects, mostly in eastern Long Island. His residential work has been seen in the pages of Better Homes and Gardens, Garden Living and The New York Times. In addition, the firm has undertaken nonresidential work, including the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee (in collaboration with Alvin Holm, AIA). In 2005, Semes was appointed to the Francis and Kathleen Rooney Chair in Architecture at the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of The Architecture of the Classical Interior and has published in Traditional Building, Period Homes and American Arts Quarterly, among others. He has offices in New York City and South Bend, Indiana.
