THE 2006 HC&G IDEA HOUSE

THE LANDSCAPE DESIGNER FOR THE 2006 IDEA HOUSE KEEPS IT NATURAL
With this year's Idea House on Calf Creek Court in Water Mill, our concept is based on the need to respect the land on which it is built and remain faithful to its untouched beauty. Nowhere can this principle be more evident than in the exterior of the house itself. The goal of the landscape design will be to create an understated elegance, one that is designed to look relatively under-designed. For this task we turned to Roxine Brown of Harmonia, Inc., the East Hampton-based landscape design firm. Brown grew up in Northern California and honed her informal style among the indigenous and varied terrain there. That type of "less is more" philosophy is exactly what we needed to create a natural landscape for the house that blends into its surroundings. "As a landscape designer living on the East End, I am constantly inspired by the incredible beauty of our surroundings. It is the quality of undisturbed nature that I find so special," Brown says.
