THE 2007 HC&G IDEA HOUSE
Philip Gorrivan, Philip Gorrivan Design
Philip Gorrivan designs with "an eye towards the future and a foot in the past." While his components may sometimes include antiques, the result is modern in focus with symmetrical arrangements, open space and a careful balance of soft and bright colors. Clients praise Gorrivan's ability to liven up a room, saying he adds, "glamour with just a coat of gloss or with one well-chosen piece." When a project is more extensive, Gorrivan works with clients to create spaces that are "tailored and comfortable" but "full of the unexpected."
Before opening this boutique firm in 2001, Gorrivan spent time in the business world, including venture capital at JP Morgan Chase and in the art world, dealing in drawings. His Manhattan based firm has completed projects ranging from New York City apartments and townhouses to country and beach residences from Dutchess and Litchfield counties to the south shore of Long Island. He currently has projects in Palm Beach and Nantucket. The firm's work has been featured in many magazines and periodicals including the New York Times, House and Garden, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Connecticut Cottages and Gardens and Hampton Cottages and Gardens.
Gorrivan resides in Manhattan with his wife and two children, and their "beloved" standard Poodle.
