The two-story entry hall, featuring an open staircase, sits at the center of an enfilade extending along the long side of the "L" connecting the living room, dining room and kitchen/family room. Broken up by graceful archways, this corridor boasts views of the landscape at both ends. In addition to the sleeping quarters, upstairs a large library with its own bathroom and staircase sits over the garage—both comprising a wing forming the shorter side of the "L." A basement features a media room, spa retreat, gentleman's study and wine cellar.
Generously sized rooms, all with multiple exposures, bring the outdoors inside, making this contemporary yet traditional home a pleasant retreat.
A VETERAN ARCHITECT AND BUILDER CREATE AN ECO-FRIENDLY HOME- Richard J. Gherardi, principal owner and president of Sand Dollar Development, and architect Steven W. Semes, who has offices in New York City and South Bend, Indiana, were committed to green initiatives in the design of the home.
- The duo turned to Charlie Marder for landscaping of the property, which encompasses a hardwood forest preserve. "He creates natural environments that blend beautifully with what's existing," says Gherardi.
- Solar panels from GreenLogic provide energy for the pool house and equipment, ensuring summer electricity savings.
