2007 HC&G IDEA HOUSE TOUR
For the two bathrooms on the first floor, Susanne Kelley of Hampton Design Kitchens Baths, along with company founder Peggy Fruin, have created spaces that combine the relaxed summer style of the Hamptons with glamorous touches of metropolitan life.
Located just off the foyer, the powder room is a space of quiet elegance that shimmers with white glass mosaics on the floor and a high-gloss Designers Guild wallpaper that evokes the surface of a pearl.
Both are reflected in a chic mirrored vanity from English Country Antiques. Wall-mounted fixtures by Laura Kirar for Kallista eliminate clutter from the honed marble countertop, and a French antique silver gilt-framed mirror and a crystal chandelier have an almost regal appeal. The only splash of color comes from a full-length nude portrait of a woman from The Grenning Gallery.
In contrast, the full bathroom near the kitchen is a reminder that the Hamptons used to be a farming community, after all. (Some would say it still is.) For the walls, large, horizontal boards mimic the siding of a barn--an effect that continues in the glass box shower, featuring iridescent blue and white stripes of mosaic glass tiles. A pale blue, beachy stone floor helps to complete the look of a country-style bath.
Founded in 1918 as a fabric supplier to the interior design trade, Kravet, who supplied the powder room's window treatment, remains a resource for a vast array of exquisite trimmings, furniture, carpet and lighting.
