"I'm calling it the Summer Pavilion," says The Design Studio's Eugenia Au Kim, I.I.D.A., about the broad veranda wrapping around the outside of the living room. "The idea is that this space is a gift to oneself, a place to relax physically and spiritually." She should know. Aside from her design expertise, Kim is also a space planner and devotee of feng shui.

With support posts dressed in natural fabric and secured with Kravet tassels, the veranda is certainly a soothing place to talk, dine or meditate. Taking cues from the environment, on the end near the living room entrance Kim installed a seating area centered around a rectangular riverstone "rug"—smooth, round pebbles covering a slightly elevated wood frame. Here, two golden statues of meditating frogs face each other in twin polyresin chairs from Walters Wicker, and a pair of tuffets offer space for other visitors to join in. (The frogs are from The Design Studio, Kim's home furnishings and design shop in Bridgehampton. Many of their products and projects are based on balanced harmony relating to classical design principles.) A few steps away, a polyresin dining table, also by Walters Wicker, is set for a light meal. "For sustenance we feed ourselves and share repartee with our friends and family at a round table," Kim says. "The Chinese love round shapes—an essential shape for dining."

Tucked around the corner, away from the traffic flowing through the French doors of the living room, Kim set up a massage table draped with a tent of gossamer fabric from Sunbrella. A statue of Buddha watches over the pillow. "The Buddha brings a special spirit that enhances the space where one could have stone massage that starts off their weekend," she says. Ah, how relaxing.
