EDITOR'S LETTER

What Makes a House a Home?

Several celebrate the thriving arts scene, others lament the paucity of modern architecture, and one—novelist A.M. Homes—predicts that "the Long Island Expressway will inaugurate a Platinum Lane for high-wealth drivers." Whatever your credit limit, though, one thing's certain: To paraphrase Michael Shnayerson, the lovely light that first drew people to the Hamptons years ago will keep shining far into the future. While we look ahead with our guest writers, we also glimpse back at some of our memorable pages. We give you a snapshot into Hamptons life we have experienced with you, featuring past homes that showcase the diversity of styles found in this part of the world. You will also find on some of our pages a box listing fun facts of what was hot when HC&G was born and what is now. And, as always, we give you a glimpse into interesting lives through homeowners who have either built or transformed spaces that are reflections of their own personalities.

As we are welcomed into your lives for yet another season, we invite you to join us in joyous times ahead...
