This weekend retreat and summer getaway is all about traditions: yearly birthday parties for Charlie with up to 60 guests seated at one of the many outdoor tables; a "work-for-your-supper" philosophy that includes daytime bike rides, hikes, fishing, tennis and golfing; and at night, stargazing under the incredibly clear sky. And then there is Susan's Rock, a granite boulder that marks the entrance to the driveway. Some time ago, Susan, who loves to embellish, asked Charlie, "What should I put on it?" To which her husband responded, "What is it?" "My rock, of course," she said. With a can of blue paint and a brush, the matriarch spelled out, "Susan's Rock," instantly creating a symbol of the foundation she and her husband have built here, one that will last for generations.
